Working 100% in Photoshop

Well, today is the second time that I have finished a pinup 100% in Photoshop. From start to finish. Tomorrow I get the chance to try this again, but more importantly, with a comic page. Filled with panels and goodies!

I really appreciate the feedback I have received on this page, and here's hoping I can keep working at it!

This is a page for The Standard, Issue 2!

The Art of Jonathan Rector - COVER

Hey everyone!

Well, it's coming down to the last little bit of details for the art book! By the end of this weekend, everything should be sent off to the printer for approval. Can't wait to see how the book turns out! Very exciting!

I finished the cover today, and thought I would make a quick blog post to go with it. Now, I say this is the "final" version, but nit-picking might happen. Enjoy!

The "Paladin" Mini-Comic, Part 2 -Da HUNGAH!

Well here we go!

If this doesn't prove my inability to stay focused on one thing, I don't know what will! As I was talking to some of the awesome people on Art&Story, I started to see where I was headed with my original idea for the mini-comic. And the more I talked about it, the more I thought about it, and the more I could clearly see where it was headed. Into the realm of NOT being a mini-comic.

I was walking out of the bathroom, and for some reason I came up with a random idea. An idea of a boy trying to get his balloon down. He tried and tried, and by the end he freaked out, and destroyed it. Then his mother would say something about the balloon, and the boy would regret it.

So  I sat down to pencil this. Instantly, the boy turned into a troll. The balloon turned into a bird. Suddenly, it was the same story, but totally different. Isn't it awesome how things can change that quickly??

The story is about a Troll, who is very hungry! He comes across a bird, and tries to kill it and eat it. Things don't work out so easily for the Troll!

Here are the VERY rough layouts for the story. Now called, DA HUNGAH! It's a play on how trolls talk in World of Warcraft. Angles will most likely change, and the placement of the wording, and a lot of things really. But this is it. The start, middle and end of the mini-comic. Story wise! Now. . . to tighten everything up! Talk to you soon in part 3!

The "Paladin" Mini-Comic, Part 1

Hey everyone!

I wanted to make a quick post about a small project I'm working on. There is a workshop going on right now at the Art&Story Podcast forums (only open to members) on making Mini-Comics! What's a mini comic?
Well, from my understanding, its literally that. A mini comic. I've seen some made from a regular 8.5x11 piece of paper folded twice, to a little bigger. I think the golden rule here, is keep it simple, and keep it fun!

So, I started my journey of coming up with a story by flipping through the folder on my computer. There is a fantasy story that I have been adding to for a while now, and I thought what the heck. Why not take one of the characters out of there, and turn it into a mini comic? And that is exactly what I've done. Now, I noticed that a lot of mini-comics are around 6-15 pages. After I finished plotting my story out, I realized, I'm going to need more. Then the thought came to me, "If I'm doing a 30 page mini-comic, is it a mini any more?" I still have not come up with the answer. I suppose, considering the size this will be, it would still be considered a mini comic.

Any who! So, the project is called "Paladin" for now. The title will most likely change, as this is just a working title. Here is the pitch so far, which will also change:

"A village awakens to the tracks of a Monster, fallen warriors and kidnapped children. A wandering Paladin, with the local Shaman hunt for the Monster. They race to save the children from doom, lies and corruption lace their difficult path."

Lots going on there for a mini isn't there? Ha ha, well. Only way to see how it turns out is to JUMP right in! So, here are a couple of sketches of characters I did today as well. Everything is bound to change, but there are some things that will stick for sure.

Stay tuned for part 2, coming soon! See ya then!

DC Comics Super Hero - FREE SKETCH! this TUESDAY, JAN 11

I hope everyone had a great holiday and new years!

Just as the title states, this up-coming Tuesday (Jan.11.2011) will be the live drawing, and free sketch give-a-way that was supposed to have happened in December. I apologize for that, as the holidays do what they normally do, and make quite the mess of a schedule. You can click here for more information as well!

So, I hope some of you can make it, and thanks again! Talk to you all soon!
